Kathryn “Kate” Teachout Kate began her practice as a litigator in civil matters, representing
both Plaintiffs and Defendants in contractual disputes, home owner
association disputes, and real estate title disputes, just to name a
few. Consequently, Kate lends a key eye to preventative law.
Kate’s practice now emphasizes probate administration, estate planning,
education, human resources and business transactions. Since the
majority of Kate’s practice is on probate administration, Kate has been
exposed to several different drafting problems within a decedent’s Last
Will and Testament. As a result, Kate has a unique perspective on
estate planning. Kate has counseled clients on drafting simple wills
to drafting trusts.
Kate’s practice with education and human
resources began with her involvement as Deputy General Counsel with a
local, private university. Kate uses her gained experience there in
counseling business clients on the hiring and retention of staff. Additionally, Kate has assisted clients in drafting vendor contracts,
licensing agreements and the sale and purchase of business assets.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
State University, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the
Garnet and Gold Honorary Societies. Kate received her Juris Doctor
from New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts, where she was
the In-house Champion of the Mock Trial Competition and a Northeast
Regional Competitor in the National Trial Competition . Kate has been a
member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar since October of
2001.
